radio "wireless transmission with radio waves," 1907, abstracted from earlier combinations such as radiophone (1881) and radio-telegraphy (1898), from radio-, comb. form of radiation (q.v.). Use for "radio receiver" is first attested 1917; sense of "sound broadcasting as a medium" is from 1922. Wireless remained more widespread until World War II, when military preference for radio turned the tables. The verb is attested from 1919.

'Radio' is the transmission of signals, by modulation of electromagnetic waves
with frequencies below those of visible light. Electromagnetic radiation travels
by means of oscillating electromagnetic fields that pass through the air and the
vacuum of space. Information is carried by systematically changing (modulating)
some property of the radiated waves, such as amplitude, frequency, or phase.
When radio waves pass an electrical conductor, the oscillating fields induce an
alternating current in the conductor. This can be detected and transformed into
sound or other signals that carry information.

Two Way Radio And The Battle Against The StormsGale force winds, flooding and other adverse weather conditions are seemingly becoming more common occurrences throughout the UK, USA and other parts of the world. This article looks at how modern two way radios are being used in the battle to protect our homes and businesses in the face of the worst of the weather.
Imagine the scene, you go to bed on a seemingly normal March evening having just heard on the news that storms are forecast close to where you live and where you work. During the night you can hear the wind howling outside your window and car alarms going off in the distance. You somehow manage to fall asleep again only to hear the familiar sound of your alarm clock waking you for another day.
Now picture this scenario when you go downstairs to make you morning cup of tea or coffee only to be faced with your ground floor flooded, no power to your home and may of your prized possessions floating around your living room.
For literally hundreds of thousands of people, this nightmare has become reality in recent years and for those people knowing that help is now at hand to help tackle the aftermath of such a tragedy is perhaps a little late. However, for home and business owners in general, modern 2 ways radio is now being used to make sure such events are handled in the very best way possible. And whilst they will not be able to help repair the loss adverse weather and flooding can cause, two way radios like the Motorola xtn446 are being used by emergency services, business owners and home owners to make sure the devastation caused by flooding and hurricanes is dealt with quickly and effectively.
In many cases where flooding and storms hit, power lines are cut including telephone lines so communication is often extremely difficult. This can hinder the speed and effectiveness of the rescue and repair process and therefore more suffering is suffered. The emergency services realize this and therefore many take advantage of modern two way radio which allows them to communicate over a wide area without having to rely on external sources of power which many other forms of communication tool suffer from.
Two Way Radio whilst not a new way for businesses to communicate does give them an ideal solution to keeping in touch, for a relatively low cost, even in the most adverse weather conditions.
The effectiveness of communication in times of hardship and tragedy can often make the difference in saving time, saving money and even in saving lives.
If you want to make sure your business or indeed your home has a fail safe method of communication that can be relied upon in even the worst of conditions, 2 way radio like the Motorola xtn446 could be just what you need. Offering wide area communication, portable and light handsets and long life batteries that do not rely on external power sources, 2 way radio is great way for people to stay in touch.
Make sure you, your family, your staff and your property is safe at all times and use two way radio to make sure it happens.
I Smell Britney Spears Perfume... Again And Again And AgainIn spite of Britney's current stinky life situation, her perfume is still doing fine. While her life is tanking, according to recent reports, Britney Spears perfume is one of the top selling celebrity perfumes. I guess we just cant get enough of Britney Spears, can you? Like a bad penny her face keeps turning up in the news and when she is not in rehab, you can hear her voice on talk shows, videos and radio.
I guess by now you are figuring out I am NOT A fan of the Britmeister Yet with this surge in recent popularity, now even your nose cant get away from her.
Lucky for us there are at least three different Britney Spears perfumes floating around for you to run screaming into the night away from. Variety is the spice of life right?
Britney Spears perfumes come in three different flavors CURIOUS , FANTASY and IN CONTROL. You can of course find Britney Spears perfumes in department stores and through the online specialty perfume shops, should you dare. In this case I think you should sniff before you buy.
Britney Spears perfumes come to us from the perfume house that Elizabeth Arden built. Of course along with commercial endorsements by the star. So, Britney does know these are being sold in her name and is of course getting a big slice of the perfume pie.
Britney Spears is just one of many young and hip celebrities diving into the world of perfumes. Why should Elizabeth Taylor, Prince and fellow blond Paris Hilton have all the fun.
CURIOUS is the first introduction from the Britney Spears perfume line up. It is a typical perfume for the non-typical female. You will find it packaged in a blue or pink perfume bottle in sort of a squashed diamond shape.
It is recommended for special occasions or for trying to get picked up at the local corner bar with your fake ID. It is a bit too youthful for my tastes but girls must find it a fun, flowery and yet sexy fragrance because they are buying it in droves as of this writing.
FANTASY was the next to be introduced, once Brit found her adoring fans loved to smell like this. This line has an amazing marketing campaign. When you go to the official website, you will find computer animation with lush, sensual colors and sparklies.
I find it amazing what women and their counterparts will spend hard earned money on items such as perfume of this caliber. It does come from a celeb however, even if from an ailing one at that. Maybe making perfume look like Love Potion No.9 was someones Fantasy at Elizabeth Arden.
In Control is the newest of the line of the Britney Spears perfume family and...um maybe smells perhaps more like Britney Spears recent image as temptress and siren. It certainly does not reflect her current life, in and out of rehab....How does she get it all done?
Its base is white vanilla, but then includes a blend of creme brule (REALLY!!), loquat fruit, midnight orchid, sugared sandalwood and musk.
It would appear that Elizabeth Arden does not test on animalsjust their customers.
